The Associate Executive Director will be an authentic, strategic, and inspiring individual who will deploy diverse skills to serve a pivotal role in meeting the needs of congregation members, clergy, staff, and the board.
This is a senior-level role reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as second-in-command for operations. The Associate Executive Director will provide service across every congregant touch point and oversee a wide array of synagogue operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Become an integral part of our synagogue's efforts to please and support our growing number of congregants.
• Serve as operational lead for daily functions of the synagogue, stepping in as needed across departments.
• Serve as HR lead for the entire synagogue staff, including participating in overseeing the personnel review process for the full staff.
• Provide leadership for capital improvements and ongoing facilities maintenance, working closely with vendors, contractors, and security personnel.
• Ensure smooth execution of lifecycle and holiday events, including coordinating staff, logistics, and space usage for Shabbat, B’nai Mitzvah, and High Holy Days.
• Participate in staff and planning meetings.
• Implement and oversee select events as needed, in coordination with event vendors and security staff.
• Coordinate efforts with other synagogue departments including programming, outreach, membership, religious school and preschool.
• Supervise multiple administrative and maintenance staff members, setting goals and monitoring performance.
• Serve as acting Executive Director during absences, ensuring continuity and leadership presence.
• Support budget planning and financial tracking alongside the Executive Director and Finance team.
This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required to support synagogue events and services.
The position requires exceptional organizational and project management skills, superb interpersonal and communication abilities, and a love of high-touch customer service. A superior level of productivity is essential to stay atop the many and diverse details of the role, along with independence, initiative, creativity, and the ability to learn new skills, systems, and disciplines.
Skills in Microsoft Office, email campaign programs, CRM systems, and web management platforms (such as ShulCloud) are preferred.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Experience in a nonprofit organization; experience with a Jewish organization is a plus.
• Outstanding interpersonal and collaborative skills with a positive and outgoing personality.
• Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
• Experience with budgeting, operations, and staff supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email campaign tools, and familiarity with ShulCloud or another enterprise management system preferred.
• Appreciation and knowledge of Jewish values, culture, and traditions.
